Stockholm Next

New products, new materials, new trends and new technical solutions. More than 700 exhibitors will be presented in Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2019’s stands in inspiring and informative ways at the exhibition center just outside Stockholm. At the same time, during February 5 – 9, Stockholm Design Week is also an exciting happening, which includes more than 200 design-related events that are held in different showrooms around the city. Every year Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair invites inspiring and leading designers from all over the world who are commissioned to design a conceptual exhibition. Here are some of the highlights:

Guest of Honour 2019 : Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, who runs the acclaimed Chinese interdisciplinary design and architecture office Neri & Hu, have been commissioned to make an installation at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. It is the 16th time that the fair invites an international designer or architect to design an installation at the fair´s entrance square. Neri & Hu will make an installation that highlights urgent social issues unique to China.

The Design Bar, which is a mix of exhibition and top-class restaurant, as well as the stage for Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks creates a common area. With inspiration from Scandinavian atrium houses and Japanese aesthetics, the Norwegian designers Anderssen & Voll design are a pine structure that surrounds an intimate courtyard. – We want to create a peaceful oasis, a place to melt all the impressions. In the Design Bar we will also show some personal favorites of furniture we designed and also introduce some brand new launches, say Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll. The menu at this years Design Bar is created in collaboration with Frida Ronge, culinary leader at the restaurants Tak and UNN in Stockholm.

The Temper / Temperament Exhibition: The designer and stage designer Sahara Widoff has been commissioned to design the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair’s Temperament exhibition, which aims to take the temperature of contemporary Scandinavian design and interior design. Sahara Widoff works as a conceptual director at Acne Studios. Among her other clients are fashion and design companies such as Alexander McQueen, Ann-Sofi Back, Arket and Rodebjer.

Greenhouse and Thau&Kalio: Greenhouse is the fair’s jury-judged area for young un-established designers and design schools. A total of 37 designers / design groups and 29 design schools from 20 countries participate. Design duo Thau&Kallio designs the Greenhouse bar and café as well as an exhibition at the Material Library. New for this year is the award Best Performance, selected by the Greenhouse jury to be awarded in collaboration with Volvo Studio. The awards ceremony will take place on February 5 at the Greenhouse scene, where mini-talks will be held daily by the exhibitors at Greenhouse.

– Visitors and exhibitors at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair come from all over the world, with different purposes, background and from exciting cultures. With that as a starting point, we want to create a bridge and an interesting room in the Greenhouse bar and café where people can meet and take a break, says Jakob Thau and Sami Kallio.
The area “The Bridge” presents, among other things, a 15 meter long installation that also serves as a table.
